Anniversary Getaway | Pangkor Laut Resort Day 1 ♥

Thursday, August 02, 2012

So on the 11th of June, we hit our first anniversary. If you're one consistent follower from my blog, i bet you will notice we literally celebrate every single monthsary. (*/∇\*) So how could we miss this 'big day'? To celebrate our very first anniversary, le boyf arranged a short getaway for this special day.

Our initial plan was Singapore, but instead of flying off to another busy city, he rather goes for something slow from the usual city life. I don't really fancy on beaches as i was brought up in an island, my house is just walking distance from where all the beaches located at. I can see them every day, i'm from Penang thats why! However, i shall give everything a try*.

We did a little research months ago, we randomly came across Pangkor Laut Resort, a YTL Private Resort. We instantly blown away by the images of the marvelous sunset and gorgeous villas of Pangkor Laut Resort. Not to mention, we were impressed by the numerous award they gotten over these recent 10 years. We immediately brought PLR into our plan, it seems like a perfect getaway for our anniversary. Har Har.

Pangkor Laut is a privately owned island by YTL and here, you will find one of the world’s premier resorts nestling in the shade of forest giants as old as the land. You will find no other resorts – just secluded bays curled around pristine beaches, evening skies woven with colour, and a deep sense of serenity.
This place is a tropical paradise with beautiful accommodations, private white sandy beaches, luxury spa village and natural breathtaking views. Also, Pangkor Laut Resort is well-known for the hospitality of its staff and it's true, it offers exceptional service, outstanding!

Pangkor Laut Resort located in Perak. We drove there in the morning since it's just a couple hours drive from KL. We took the turn-off at Bidor and follow all the signs that says 'Pulau Pangkor' or 'Jetty'. But god who knows, once the turn off at Bidor, we drove on trunk roads with super slow traffic where only single lane for both directions. We took around 1 hour to reach Bidor but ironically an hour plus or more from Bidor to the jetty. What a joke?

What we saw around me was wither Palm trees or paddy field! Such a relief from city!

After few hours of drive, we finally saw this bridge which means we are approaching our destination real soon.

Pangkor Laut Resort has its own office at the Marina Island. Le boyf first dropped me at the waiting lounge and got all the check in done while he got his car parked at PLR's private car park. The obliging staff was there offering us welcome drinks and snacks and taking care of our luggage at the mean time.

While waiting for our speedboat's arrival, we took a short walk around the jetty.

From Marina Island, all the guests are transported by PLR's privately owned boats to Pangkor Laut Resort. The boat departure is scheduled in according time table for each day. Guests are required to check-in at Marina Island Pangkor Office. We took our 'ride' at 1pm and the journey time is approximately 15 minutes.

Barely 20 minutes later, we rested our eyes on the first sight of the resort.

A unique resort on a unique island - Pangkor Laut is a privately owned island by PLR and it's located three miles off the West Coast of Malaysia along the Straits of Malacca. This piece of paradise has been 2 million years in the making, and here you will find one of the world’s premier resorts nestling in the shade of forest giants as old as the land.
You will find no other resorts – just secluded bays curled around pristine beaches, evening skies woven with colour, and a deep sense of serenity reserved exclusively for our guests. A combination of luxury, natural beauty and age-old wilderness woven together to produce an environment where peace and magically memorable moments are the currency.
Nature is respected here, almost revered, and it rewards visitors in ways that simply need to be experienced.

We then escorted to our seats and staff offered refreshments. Oh well did i just mentioned that we already done our check in at Marina Office? And yes we didn't have to stand at the counter checking in. First class service! (︶ω︶)

One member of the staff will come over to us and slowly explained to us where the room is, where to go for our meals, what's available at the resort etc etc. First class service i'd said! I loved the attention to detail, how they made you feel like you really got your money's worth right from the get go.

There are different types of villas in the island - sea villa, beach villa, garden villa and hill village, also the more exclusive Spa villa located in Spa Village. We wanted to stay in the Sea Villa but it was fully booked at the moment, guess we will try on our luck for the next time.

Just before the trip i did a little research on their villas, knowing that hill villa is perched dramatically on the hillside amidst the rainforest which needs a lot of foot practice, hence a big NO for me! Then we decided to go for Beach Villa, thankfully it's available for us where only 8 villas for each of them. Luck on us this time, Yay!

Beach Villa is just few steps away from the white sandy beach, these villas have a breathtaking view of the sea. Private balcony furnished with deck chairs and a breathtaking view of the ocean with outdoor courtyard. Our villa is so spacious with three separation, first where our bed is, then the changing area and last the separate shower and a huge bathtub in a private outdoor courtyard.

Half of the noon gone once we got everything settled. The lovely staff then direct us to the nearest venue to have our late lunch at Royal Bay Beach Club. An overlooking the infinity pool serves a selection of Asian and Western favourites for lunch. Under our package, we get 6 meals, and each meal is inclusive of one appetizer, one main course, and one dessert.

Sushi Cocktail. Grilled Taco topped sushi, served with piquant wasabi paste. Salad as starter, followed up with meats!

Photobucket
Amazed by the amount of fish roe. A must try!

Photobucket
Pangkor Tropical Pizza. Succulent chicken rendang dusted with aromatic spices. Have you ever tried pizza with this Malay localize combination?

Photobucket
Beef Stew. They made a mistake on this dish, so we replaced one with the Fried Noodles below. Well, a picture of good food, i guess all of you wouldn't mind. :)

Chef's recommendation - Royal Bay Fried Noodles. Typical Fried Noodles, but look at the size of shrimp!

Sago Gula Melaka. Something locally sweet.

Aha, look for a snack near the restaurant? (。・・)_

What's next? Of course a quick dip into the infinity pool. PLR is famous for its infinity pools, overlooking the sea and the water villas. It was so fabulous and stunning, I must say. I think I pruned in these pools. Aha have u tried swimming with sunglasses, it's quite fun actually, especially if all you do is float on the water and stare at the blue sky and daydream.

Wait, yours truly haven't turn into a big tanned banana eyy. (ノ>ノ)

Took a quick nap after our swim then off we go for our dinner at The Feast VillageThere were a few restaurants, spread all over the resort, each with its own charm. We were told by the staff that The Feast Village was serving international buffet on Saturday night, we quickly made our reservation on it. However, we regretted on that move, we should have gone to Uncle Lim's Kitchen. Because we were also told by one of the driver around PLR, Uncle Lim's Kitchen was name after the chef who has been with the Resort since its inception. I'm a super Chinese eater, how could i miss the chance to try on their Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese-style home cooking? Such a waste on not trying them on our first meal, guess will have it during our next visit then. (ノД`)

Later on, we chilled at The Royal Beach Bay Club. It's first a restaurant during the day time then it transform into a chic chill out lounge after evening. With a glass of Sex on the beach and a glass of wine, let's call it for our first night in Pangkor Laut Resort.

we got it under American Express' privilege offer, 3 days 2 night (3 meals included everyday) around 3k plus. But my boyf upgraded our private dinner by the beach for the second night. :)

I think it will cost slightly cheaper excluding the dinner. You can check them out on PLR's website, they do offer pretty good deal.
